Dear President-Elect Obama. . .
Historic change was both promised and delivered to all Americans on November 4, 2008. With the election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States, there is great hope for positive change not only in this country but around the world. However, this election also brought major set-backs for the GLBT community, particularly in California where the right for same-sex couples to marry was eliminated with the passage of Proposition 8. This has been an enormous disappointment for all GLBT Americans and has left many gays and lesbians in California feeling like second-class citizens.
Throughout President Elect Obama's campaign he used narrative stories about many individuals to make various points. It is time for him to hear our narrative stories so that he can understand the discrimination we are feeling right now in the year 2008.
This is a grassroots site that has been created for you to voice your sadness, your frustration, and, most importantly, your personal stories on how this affected you. It is our wish that President-Elect Obama will soon announce a GLBT liaison whom we can refer to this site, and, who in turn, will refer President Obama to it with the hope he will speak out and say, loud and clear, that discrimination written into any constitution is a violation of everyone's civil rights.
